2017 Southport Music Festival

Southport Music FestivalThe Wayfarers Chorus  again took part in the Southport Music Festival, held this year at Greenbank High School on Friday 6 October.  There were 3 entries in the Barbershop chorus class this year, North West Harmony, Just Voices (ladies) and Wayfarers.

We chose to sing our three latest repertoire additions, one of which was receiving its first public airing.  Unfortunately the decision to do something fresh didn’t bring the success we hoped and the ladies chorus ‘Just Voices’ won the contest for the second year running (do you like how I wrote that without any pictures of grinding teeth?).

The pain of the main chorus’ lack of success was eased somewhat by a quartet of our members winning the quartet class, looking very stylish in their new jackets!

This year the organisers decided to extend the evening by inviting a number of choruses and musicians along to entertain the audience in a non-competition second half.  ‘Quattro Sax’ featured baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophones playing a mix of jazz and blues.  ‘The Ukelele Minstrels’, (with accompaniment from a bass guitar) and ‘Local Vocals’ followed and the grand finale was provided by ‘United Voices’, with plenty of audience participation.

The addition of the second half made this a really good night of entertainment, despite the competition result.

You can see us singing our three songs below.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoy singing them.
